Josh’s work often considers what it means to hear and to be heard. His music, posted under the artist name Kata, has been featured on Genius, Pixel Farm Creative Studios, and NBC Affiliate, Kare 11, alongside an audience of 250,000 followers across TikTok and Instagram. He is the winner of the Elsie Filippi Memorial Prize in Poetry, and his poetry has appeared in The Ekphrastic Review, The Maroon, and Blacklight Magazine, where he currently serves as Editor-in-Chief. He has been a featured storyteller in Refracting Freedom and Story Space and Time through the Center for the Study of Race, Politics, and Culture @ The University of Chicago. And his debut sound art project, The Community Synthesizer, a culmination of his work as a Stamps Scholar, was recently presented at the DuSable Black History Museum and Education Center.
